The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn [Mark Twain]
so i just finished reading huckleberry finn and i am in hoots . it took me quite a while to get to the very end, on account of being so utterly brainrotted but Laws, was it a ride . first off, tom was so annoying right up until the end by then the twist got me so tickled, i couldn't take him seriously any more. anyways, most of the book i was perplexed how mature--and clever huck was, considering he was only fourteen(at least what he mentions is buck's age--which that part got me a bit emotional), and so did the huck's conscience passage. i watched hal holbrook's take on it and i do want to cover it so. someday. it was honestly a poignant commentary on america's south during slavery if you take a deep hard look, but also sort of comical the way the adventures went. loved it. also, jim's part about solomon and his wives honestly struck me, despite everything he was honest and kind even though technically, he had no reason to be so.

Good Will Hunting
Watched: Jul 03 2026; Tier: 2
I watched this movie cause I was searching for movies similar to Dead
Poets Society. Cried about six times. Although at some points, I felt
a sort of 'alienation' so as to speak because I couldn't really relate
to it(no shit, he's a genius TvT), other times it felt so raw
emotionally, I could feel exactly what he was feeling, I could
understand what was going in Will's head when he's staring nowhere in
particular. It was all so beautifully done.
There were a few things of note:
1. At one point, the camera pans to the assistant professor(?)(which,
he's a lovely guy really) and it was an inconsistency because in
the previous shot he's doing something else.
3. The dialogue was impeccable and so raw. The 'it's not your fault' scene was so layered to me, it was a snapshot of the whole psychological deal with Will.
4. SKYLAR IS PERFECT??? HER CRASHOUT IS PERFECT HER DIALOGUE IS PERFECT SHE IS JUST SO. PERFECT. which honestly is expected out of someone who's in Harvard, I guess but I was so surprised in the scene Will is panicking(?) and his abandonment issues are cropping up, she handled it so intelligently, imo. Also, her looking back at the airport was so sad. :( Felt like a warm knife that slides up your heart.
5. Honestly, I don't know if it's because the movie is like that but I could sort of predict where everything was going. I knew what Sean was going to say, I knew what Will was going to say and do and so on(except Skylar). Although, I admit I didn't see Will going into the profession so easily, everything else was so damn in character. Which I dunno if is a fault or a perfection of the movie because its real. It's too real.
6. I'm forgetting now but there were a few scenes I had to rewind and they only really truly made sense the second time in ways that fit perfectly. Sean and Gerry's fight, for one felt like I was prying into something personal, lifting the flaps into someone's scars. Which also is beautiful cinematography and writing and everything else.
7. I LOVE CHUCKIE. I AM MORGAN. I don't think I fully understood the "best part of my day" part but that shot of him after looking into the window and finding Will is gone is so gloriously acted out. The shock, the momentary grief and then the pride and almost wild joy in the shrug.
8. Honestly at a lot of points in the film I was just thinking how everyone's micro expressions were done so tastefully. Maybe it's in the script, maybe it's not but it's lovely.
Usually, when I watch movies I(that's boring, I know TvT) always automatically think about takeaways and there weren't really any I could tangibly make out except the whole Carpe Diem theme and everything wrapped into that. Which is honestly unusual for me for a film like this, but it was incredibly fervent. I don't think I will be thinking too much about it though, everything was kind of laid out enough for an overthinker like me to pause and think right there. But that remains to be seen, especially because I saw someone say every scene was extremely deliberate. I will probably randomly yap about this to my friends quite a bit though. TvT Good luck to them.
